Reviewing the TOVA Test Reports

So do you or don’t you have ADHD or ADD? The tests do NOT definitively tell you if you have ADHD or ADD. The test results inform a diagnosis by a qualified mental health or medical provider with the training and experience to diagnose ADHD/ADD and possibly other comorbid disorders. So give your TOVA test reports to your mental health provider to aide in their assessment and diagnosis of your condition.

ATTENTION COMPARISON SCORE

That said, the reports do state whether the results are within norms or below, below being indicative or an attention or inhibitory deficit. Of particular interest to test-takers is the Attention Comparison Score on the visual test report. The ACS compares the subject’s performance to the normative sample of individuals independently diagnosed with ADHD. Scores above zero indicate the absence of attention or inhibitory deficit, while scores below zero suggest a performance more similar to that of individuals with ADHD. While the report visually depicts the ACS scale between -10 to +10, the ACS scores can go as low as -30. The report will show your actual score above the scale.

Interestingly enough, the TOVA Test can also detect malingering and will report instances of such. So anyone considering faking their way to an ADHD diagnosis should reconsider as they will likely have an awkward conversation with their clinician and possibly be sent back for retesting.

To better understand the scales and graphs on the reports, clinicians can call the TOVA Company and request Interpretative Support. Anyone can download the Clinical Manual from the TOVA Company website.
